Yo-Yo Madness

I've been bitten - by the yo-yo bug! I love to play with fabric, but I really didn't understand why crafters are going yo-yo crazy, sure, they're cute, but isn't that a lot of work for such a tiny result? Turns out they are totally addictive and now I'm looking at my fabrics in a whole new way :)

I had a Secret Sister assignment for the holidays and decided to have a go at two trends in one - the yo-yo thing, and altering a store bought scarf, hat and mittens set. My secret sister just had a baby girl, so I embellished coordinating mother-and-daughter hats and gloves, with a scarf for Mama. Oh - I love it!! This was really fun, I highly recommend you start making fabric yo-yos right away :)Here are some other people who have been bitten by the yo-yo bug:
Jennifer Duncan - my crafting friend and fabric goddess, Jen sometimes has yo-yo kits in her Etsy store. Search her blog for more yo-yo projects :)
Heather Bailey - Fun fabric designer - here's a tutorial for yo-yos and a gallery with some ideas on how to use them, just keep hitting the 'next' button for step by step photos.
Penny Sanford - step by step how-to make heart shaped yo-yos - you'll need these for Valentines!

In full flight of hat and scarf fever I also embellished my Holiday visitors - brother Richard and his girlfriend Jane - with hats and scarves, but I spared them the yo-yo treatment :) Here they are modeling their hats, scarves, and new cameras on Christmas Day.Wishing you a great week, now down to the business of annual review, prep for the new year, setting some goals. More on that later! Have you decided on your new year goals yet?

Also, don't know if you saw this on the Needlework News blog, but it is another great way to use yoyo's.

  3. Hi Sue- Glad you got *bitten*. They really are my favorite project to sit in front of the telly with in the evenings. The glove and scarf set was a fab idea for using them. I hope to finish my double bed coverlet by this time next year!!
