I had the great privilege of spending my birthday near the shore, day and night. I don't usualy go on about my birthday like this, but I have to say this year was really good, for the first time in years. The evening was spent at Trump International Golf Course, an event that strictly speaking was work, but in reality was very lovely and this was the sunset we saw! The day time was lunch overlooking the ocean, 4 people, 3 drinks spilled, 2 lunches not eaten, 1 margarita salad (yes, one of the spilled drinks, and NOT one of the uneaten lunches) - priceless :)
Seriously, there's a good side to everything, there IS a silver lining in that cloud gosh darn it, and if you refuse to see it you only cheat yourself, right? I'm squeezing silvery rain out of that cloud. I rediscovered a very favorite old song recently, Joan Armatrading's 'Dry Shore' - amazing. Long ago and far away I used to go hear it sung by Louisa Wise at the Sunday Session in Freo. Here are the lyrics:
Let me sail to the depths of your soul
Let me anchor as near as I can be to your shore
I'm coming into dry land
Been a long time at sea
And the season of loving
Has long awaited me
Let me anchor as near as I can be to your shore
I'm coming into dry land
Been a long time at sea
And the season of loving
Has long awaited me
Tides and waves have kept meKept me going
I'm longing for the calm
I'm heading for the pastures
I can see on your dry land
Let the sea that once did take me
Bring me back safe to your door
For I long to touch the dry land of your shore
