Comfort Zones - A Little Challenge

I was looking through some older journal pages over the weekend and found these - funny to see that I'm still facing the same challenge. The pages were about breaking out of comfort zones, in this case a color comfort zone. The pages reminded me that I still need to work on that, and that I have a lot of paint chips in my supply stash. Do you remember the paint chip fad? They are still the most reasonably priced art supply to be found - just visit your local hardware or paint store and pick up a few to play with, no charge!
Inside the coin envelope was a little text to remind me where my comfort zone lies - as if i would forget. This page is the colors I'm drawn to naturally ...... and this page is the colors I have to push myself to use, primary, pastels and bolds. Of-course it's fine to stay within your comfort zones, but it's interesting to see the results when you push yourself outside the zone too.

Paint Chips: Hardware Store :)

So here's the challenge - try doing something outside your comfort zone this week, and post a link or a note here to let me know how that went for you. Could be using different colors in your art or quilting, trying a different pattern, cooking a meal using unusual ingredients, talking to someone if you're a quiet person, anything at all that takes you outside the norm, not to the point of raging discomfort, just a little nudge. I'll be giving it a go too.

Have a great, slightly out of the comfort zone, week.

  3. Love that you scrapped it! I do find that I like certain colors, ideas and gravitate towards them so this is great idea to keep yourself aware of what you should try.

  5. Thanks for the nudge. I have trouble using purple in anything I make. I'll be thinking on your challenge this week.
