A Publication Story

A couple of years ago I went to an open call for art hosted by the Stampington editors. I was so excited when they selected my work for publication - wow! Fast forward to yesterday, when the decorated tins and journal pages they had selected arrived on my doorstep, with a note saying they were clearing out their shelves, and if my work had been selected for publication I would have received a letter to that effect. Ah well, it was nice to get my artwork back - and I was surprised and impressed to find it was in pristine condition, the Stampington folks took great care of it over those two and a half years!

Imagine my surprise today when a complimentary copy of the December/January 2009 Stamper's Sampler magazine arrived in my mailbox - with a whole page devoted to my items! Oh yes, I'm delighted. There are a few little errors, my name was mis-spelled just a bit - Sue Mcgettingan , but that's OK, the stamp credits were omitted - Buzz and Bloom, and they published a description of how to make the left hand title page, but published the picture of the right hand second page. So to make sense of the directions, here is a picture of the title page (click on the picture to see it larger) -

Would you like to hear the story behind the pages? I was painting the tins with layers of gesso, turquoise, yellow and white ink/paint, stamping background paper for the trim, and my husband got cranky about my messy artwork being my top priority when there were plenty of other things I could have been doing around the house. So naturally, instead of doing that housework, I grabbed a couple of journal pages and layered the extra paint and ink on the pages, stamped them and journaled ...
