Old Town Center, Zug, Switzerland
I'm on vacation, so probably will be posting about wanderings for a few weeks. Right now I'm in Zug, Switzerland, where one of my brothers lives, hanging out with family, such a treat. Yesterday we went over to Basel to see a Vincent Van Gogh exhibition, so AMAZING. Just because you can, we drove over the border to France for dinner :) I drove home from there, my first try at driving in Europe, it went pretty well, we got home safely, and passed no less than 8 rainbows on the way. I used to call this the land of yodelers, but I'm thinking now it's the land of rainbows!
Swiss Folk Band playing buckets, washboard (with whisks),
wooden spoons, rug beater bass on a blanket chest,
and a guest (lower right front) on the bottles (yes, wine bottles)
They even yodel and clog!
Saturday was 'Swiss National Day', very fun. Plenty of yodeling, sunshine, cowbells and green fields, this country is just beautiful. I'm stumbling around with very little German speaking skill, but the locals are very adept in their English, so with a little sign language and a lot of good will we're doing OK.

- check out those medallions!
I realize that in the rush of leaving I was in transit over my Blogiversary, so I'm offering blog candy. It will be a mixture of collage items found on my travels in Switzerland and Italy, no clue exactly what that will include, but certainly you can expect newspapers in foreign text, hopefully some copies of old photos, tea tags and ephemera, postage stamps, maps and who knows what else. Just a mish mash, no major value, but if you like to play with paper it should be fun.
To win the blog candy you get an entry for each of the following:

Oh, Sue it sounds like an amazing vacation. Switzerland was my favorite country when I traveled Europe. I think of it as the land of chocolate. Nobody makes better chocolate than they do in Switzerland. I'd love to go back someday. Can't wait to hear more about your travels.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you're having a WONDERFUL trip!! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteSue, sounds like a really fun trip. In my younger days, I loved to travel and working for an airline meant I was on the go a lot. Now I am not much of a traveler. There are places I'd like to see, but I am more afraid to travel outside the US these days. Plus, I hate to pack and don't care much to fly either.
ReplyDeleteI was led to your site by the twopeas blogblast. Great pics of Switzerland! I was lucky enough to travel through about 10 years ago. I remember rainbows and waterfalls. What's not to like about vacation?
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your trip. I signed up to follow!
Ohhh, sounds like your having so much fun. I would love to see some things from around the world. I don't travel, so I'm seeing the land from your eyes. Love that door, reminds me of narnia! sigh!
ReplyDeleteOh Sue! You lucky lucky girl. And here I am STILL spending summers changing diapers. :-( SOME day I WILL travel!! Have a fabulous time for me, won't you? ;-)
ReplyDeleteWell dang. How cool is a trip to Switzerland. I am really jealous. Hope you are having just an absolutely fabulous time.

These pictures reminded me of the 6years that I lived in Mount Angel, Oregon. The Abbey there was founded by monks from Engelberg Abbey, Switzerland. So, the whole town has taken the flavor of a Swiss village - there is even a huge Oktoberfest celebration. Have a great and safe trip!
ReplyDeleteyour photos are amazing...I hope you had a wonderful time! :)
ReplyDeleteI love to travel!! I have travelled around Australia quiet a bit.
ReplyDeleteI am off to Thailand and Malaysia in 2 months so that's going to be exciting! I've never been there before. I love Bali, it would be my favourite holiday place so far.
