I'm slowly getting over the 'Bah Humbugs' and getting on board with the holiday spirit - cold rainy days and hot cups of tea are helping immensely. It's not so much that I don't like Christmas, because I do, honest, it's just that this year, and for the past few years, I've been feeling more and more disenchanted with the commercialism that seems to run rampant at this time of year. Seriously, stores and parking lots were decorated for Christmas right around Halloween, what's up with that? I can't even imagine how people who don't celebrate Christmas must feel about all this madness.
I'm feeling more like getting back to simple - home cooking, home made, home centered holidays. Less fuss about the shopping, and more effort to spend time together, enjoy simple pleasures, and remember the reason for the season. So, I'm having fun doing a little baking (not much, I'm more a cook than a baker, although I made a pretty good batch of lemon shortbread last week if I do say so myself), a lot of crafting, and a ton of cardmaking. Playing some seasonal tunes, and feeling a little bit of the holiday glow. I've arranged to have Christmas Eve off work so I'll be able to enjoy the day with my kiddos (yes, they're pretty grown up now, we can graduate to Midnight Mass instead of the earlier children's service), and I'm glad the holiday falls on a weekend this year so I won't have to go to work on Boxing Day, since it's not an observed holiday over here.
Hmm, I still sound pretty grumpy and grinchy, must get over that and bring on the merry and bright :) How do you get into the holiday spirit?
Hi, Sue! Pretty card! Hope you and yours have a fabulous homey holiday season! :-)
ReplyDeleteSweet card and full of the sentiments of keeping it real, after all what is the rush? Christmas or Mother’s day or what ever is not supposed to be about who buys the most stuff but what we did together to make it meaningful.
ReplyDeletelove your card Sue. My family will be at our place this year, all bring some food so we will have a nice and pleasant meal together. Today I'm starting to decorate, which is not my forte... :)
ReplyDeleteWishing you a lovely season!
Sue
ReplyDeletethis is just lovely! the card has such an old fashioned Christmas feel and love the red and white combo. Everytime I see your use of the cuttlebug it makes me want to go get one! :) Hope you are having a wonderful holiday season!
Love this card. It's so homey and elegant at the same time. I've been too sick to feel festive lately. We did get the tree up and some cards written out this weekend. I look forward to baking. That always seems to do it for me. Love those cookies.
ReplyDeleteLovely card, the design is so elegant and beautiful! I think you are on the right track for Holiday Spirit, keep it simple and mostly homemade! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Sue. I love the ribbon and the Cuttlebug background
ReplyDeleteSue, I love love love this beautiful card. Great stamp selection and colors. As you can tell, I am feeling a bit overwhelmed and definitely a bit "grinchy". Hard to get in the spirit when there is just so much to do. I keep trying to figure out a way to get things done ahead of time, and thankfully I did a bunch of cards this summer. Maybe I just need to put on some holiday tunes!
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful card Sue! Love the main image, it's gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteLove the card! So elegant and beautiful. My failsafe is to listen to Christmas music and also to watch either It's a Wonderful Life or any other old Christmas movie!
ReplyDeleteSue...your card is stunning, I love it! And I agree with you on Christmas....I miss the old fashion Christmas'!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm making some cinnamon cookie dough now so that when the kids get home from school they can have fun using Christmas shaped cutters to make cookies without the stress of the preparing and weighing and cleaning away that can sometimes spoil the moment.
ReplyDeleteI think the smell of any home cooking or baking in the house with a little Christmas music in the background can make things magic.
Shame we also have Swine Flu immunisations this afternoon and dental check ups in the morning. Sometimes normal life can get in the way!
Wowee...those punches make this look SOO professional! Love this card Sue!
