Play Dates, UFOs and a Bite to Eat

My friend Penny threw her home open for a crafty play date on Saturday. After looking at just how much stuff I'd have to haul around if I went with paper projects, I decided to take lighter weight beading and sewing supplies along, and see what came out of it. The little felty circles above are UFOs (un-finished objects) - I have no idea what they'll become, but I'm thinking something floral on a larger background. The buttons are just resting there to see if they 'fit'. One thing is clear, I need some yellow felt and/or yellow buttons, I don't use a lot of yellow and clearly failed to see the need for it when I was buying felt. Originally I bought the felt long ago to make a tea-cosy, so maybe these wonky little UFOs will end up on a tea-cosy someday.

I had made some blue earrings a while back after falling in love with a pair that I'd seen online, last week I lost one of the earrings (how DOES that happen??). Luckily I had extra beads and fixings, so I made a new pair. Don't you love that seaglass type of blue? The beads are chalcedony, I love them in an entirely obsessive way! I hope the original earring will turn up someday under a sofa cushion or something silly like that. I'm thinking perhaps a necklace would make a nice companion for these earrings, need to work on that.

Since I was already playing with beads I made a green pair of earrings too, I have a long term love affair with green, it's my permanent partner in all things wearable. I had very limited supplies with me, so they are super simple, using whatever came to hand at the time. Penny was painting up a pair of doc martens to make some altered (wearable) shoes, and some 'I might be illegal' pins; Monica was cutting thrifted t-shirts into strips, stretching and winding into t-yarn balls to add to her very fab looking crocheted rug; Jennice was crocheting fine wire for jewelry making - very intricate and so cool! We chatted as we worked, and snacked on samosas, dhal and rice, jalebi, cookies and exotic organic spiced chocolate. Thanks Penny for a wonderful day, so much appreciated.

Today is a holiday here in the USA - Memorial Day - so I made the most of an extra day at home and baked some cheese scones for breakfast. My son loves these, so they are at least half gone now. I need to remember how easy it is to put a batch of scones together - so quick and delicious! I also roasted some eggplant to make baba ghanouj, very garlicky - yum!

Wishing you all a very happy Memorial Day - hope you have a great day, and remember those who gave their lives in service.

  1. Those felts are so cute. I can see them as flowers on a card or layout. Your earings are so pretty.

  2. You're welcome, it was grand fun, wasn't it? I've seen felty circles like that used to upgrade a boring skirt or cardigan... think of the possibilities!

I'm wearing the shoes right now, here they are:

  3. MmmMmmMmm those scones look good! Love your felt circles, reminds me of a penny rugs which I've always wanted for some reason. Also love those blue sea glassy earrings! Maybe your one earring is where all the single socks go to hide? Aren't you lucky to have crafty friends? Sounds like fun to craft and chat!
