Happy Easter Peeples!

"Creating a Masterpeeps" by Phyllis Mayes

Happy Easter to everyone. Have you ever seen the Washington Post Peeps Show contest? Each year they host a contest to make a diorama using Peeps, showing a pop culture reference - current event, big news story, movie, book, theater - anything you can think of. The entries are hilarious, and a great time capsule. Here are this year's entries - Washington Post Peeps Show IV

It should be said that Peeps are a uniquely American/Canadian item, before I arrived here I had never seen, heard of, or tasted Peeps. Indeed, for many years I just passed them in the grocery store without thinking much more than "what on earth are THOSE things??". The answer is brightly colored bunny or chick shaped marshmallows, an Easter tradition here, and now appearing for other holidays as well. They really held no allure for me until my friend
Tracy introduced me to the Washington Post Peeps Show diorama contest. Hilarious!!

My fave entry this year? "Creating a Masterpeeps" by Phyllis Mayes, I love all the little details, including the different artists renditions of peeps on the walls (magritte, picasso, etc.) , the bunny life model (Phyllis is an artist and a life model), and the oh-so-cool bunnypeep skeleton. Past faves include Reservoir Peeps, Peepsters Kill Room (Dexter!) ... hmm, I guess I like the creepy peeps :)
